COMMENCING JUNE 19 TO SEPTEMBER 10, 2016The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), under the direction of a Registered Nurse, provides nursing care necessary for the comfort and well-being of the resident. The LPN provides nursing care using a problem solving, person centered approach. The LPN practices as a collaborative member of an inter-disciplinary team providing quality nursing care based on the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The LPN is responsible for developing and maintaining his/her own professional competencyBi-Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours bi-weekly / 7.5 and/or 11.25 hours / Rotating Days, Nights, Evenings / Every 2nd Weekend- Successful completion of an approved course of study for Licensed Practical Nurses.- The successful applicant must possess a valid license with the Licensed Practical Nurses Association/Registrar of Prince Edward Island.- Must have courses in health assessment, medical administration and pharmacology.- Ability to work well under supervision as well as independently, when required.- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, requesting and accepting direction, as required.- Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.- Demonstrate good communication and judgment skills.
- Able to provide physical, psycho-social, emotional and spiritual care to the residents. – Applicants must be capable of sustained physical activity.- A good previous work and attendance record.Other Qualifications: – Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.Applicants are expected to complete the full length of this assignment unless appointed to a permanent position.Note: The collaborative care model on PEI is a province-wide initiative that will involve service delivery changes in all areas of the health system including acute care, long term care, home care, and primary health care. This model sees teams of providers working collaboratively to their full scope of practice to ensure the patients, clients, or resident’s needs are met in a coordinated, consistent, and timely matter. The collaborative care model has not yet been implemented in all unit/work sites.
