Company: Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS) is looking for a Food Services Assistant for our Food Services Department to assist in meal preparation for all our YESS facilities. Youth Empowerment & Support Services is a not-for-profit Agency working with youths from difficult realities. In this role you will report to the Facilities- Food Services Supervisor.

Job Description : Your main responsibilities will be:

Coordinating all aspects of meal preparation, serving and maintenance, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting and prepping for all required food services for YESS facilities and functions
  • Meal planning and food preparation in accordance with Canada Food Guidelines
  • Maintaining the inventory and donations specific to food services
  • Ensuring all YESS Food Service Facilities are maintained to Public Health standards
  • Follow all procedures in place within YESS Food Service areas to the highest standards of safety
  • Providing Event Support as needed
  • Supporting the Facilities- Food Services Supervisor as needed regarding Food Services operation
  • The incumbent will have the ability to perform their duties with little or minimal supervision
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with visitors and co-workers

Your work will enable the company to continue delivering highest quality standards in food services to support Edmonton’s youth from difficult realities by providing healthy meals to our youth and staff.

Requirements and Qualifications :

  • Knowledge in meal planning and preparation, catering, inventory control and compliance with all Health and Safety Standards
  • Maintain a clean organized work environment including; walk in coolers, storage areas, sweeping of the floors, cleaning of surfaces, as well as proper covering and storage of food items according to standards and procedures as well as general maintenance and detailed cleaning of equipment
  • Should have 2 years’ experience in a face paced kitchen environment,
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate
  • High School Diploma
  • Must have a clean driving record with a class 5 license.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and be on the move for long periods of time
  • Customer Service skills to enhance the overall visitor experience when receiving donations
  • Basic computer skills
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work

Wage: 15-17 per hour, b ased on qualifications and experience; Job Type: part time 20-25 hours a week Thursday – Sunday
