About Us
The core purposes of the Merit Contractors’ Association are to:
Provide strong proactive leadership for the open shop construction industry, including the creation of a regulatory and business environment that supports open shop construction principles; Provide human resources services and programs that meet the needs of open shop companies and contribute to the well being of their employees and their families; Position construction industry jobs as attractive career options and support the development of a stable, appropriately skilled construction industry workforce; and Provide education and support for our members to encourage sound business practices and keep them informed on open shop issues.
Responsibilities •
Work with the education system and industry to develop frameworks, policies and programs to increase youth participation in construction trades •
Develop and oversee an application process for schools and school boards to apply for funding from Merit •
Liaise with Merit contractor members to identify employment gaps and job opportunities •
Manage grants from the Canada Job Grant and other related programs •
Work with school boards, teachers and guidance counselors to raise awareness of the construction trades and influence educational programming •
Plan, develop and evaluate construction-training sessions •
Participate in and facilitate school presentations and career fairs •
Provide employment counseling services to youth interested in a construction trade •
Work closely with the team and partners to source training participants by implementing outreach strategies to promote the project sessions and recruit participants •
Support and influence community partners by participating in attraction/retention strategies that address labor market needs and skills shortages •
Register participants monitor and evaluate training sessions and provide progress reports and relevant paperwork •
Lead and/or participate in special project development, design and delivery. •
Design, develop and deliver information to stakeholders regarding Merit Contractor’s services and programs •
Develop and maintain effective networks/partnerships
Education •
Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma preferred but not essential •
Construction experience would be a significant asset, with qualification in a trade.

Compensation
$70,000-80,000 per year
