Terms: TemporaryFull-Time: 35 hours/week
Shift: Monday to Friday, regular daytime hours

Salary: $14.89 per hour
Term: June 22, 2014 – August 28, 2015(mustbe available to work full contract; no exceptions)

Nature & Scope:
The First Tee of Greater Vancouver YMCA isone chapter of an international non-profit youth initiative called The FirstTee. The First Tee was created in 1997 by the World Golf Foundation to provideyoung people of all ethnic and economic backgrounds an opportunity to develop,through golf and character education, life-enhancing values such as honesty,integrity, and sportsmanship. By engaging young people in a combination of lifeskills, leadership, and golf activities, they also are exposed to positivetraits that will help them achieve success in life. In the process,participants become valuable assets to their community. The First Tee LifeSkills Experience is the unique component that sets The First Tee apart frommany other successful junior golf programs and youth development programsthrough sport.

The Team Leader is responsible for impacting, influencing, andinspiring young people to become the best they can be through utilization ofThe First Tee Golf & Life Skills curriculum, The Nine Healthy Habits, andThe First Tee Coach Building Blocks. Reporting to the Manager, the Team Leaderwill deliver a value based program through the game of golf, supervising andevaluating assistant coaches and volunteers.

Major Responsibilities: Actively interact with children, families, and youth in a positive and professional manner Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA participants, visitors, and colleagues
Welcome and assist participants, volunteers,potential donors, and parents in a polite and courteous manner
Become proficient in creating/delivering fun,active, and engaging lesson plans that seamlessly integrate golf instructionwith the life lessons, healthy habits, and core values of the six levels of TheFirst Tee Life Skills Curriculum (Target, PLAYer, PAR, BIRDIE, EAGLE, ACE).
Createand maintain a positive atmosphere and build positive self-esteem andconfidence in children
Establishand maintain positive communication with manager, colleagues, and parents
Track and provide regular reports onparticipant progress including attendance, assessments, and class levelrecommendations in a complete and timely manner
Manage daily operations, including accurateparticipant records
Engage, lead, and inspire volunteers. Thisincludes but is not limited to: incorporating volunteers into lesson delivery,conducting lesson review prior to class, tracking volunteer hours, and buildingrelationships with volunteers that promote their future involvement.
Assist with the development and implementationof new procedures that promote participant retention Promote philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign Assist in the delivery of training pieces including child protection policies and procedures, emergency procedures, programming and customer service Ensure the safety of all participants, staff, and property by following The First Tee/YMCA standards/ policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all participants, staff, and volunteers Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all program areas and common spaces Remain flexible – willing to learn new skills, alter shifts Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
Maintainregular attendance, punctuality and be appropriately dressed and well groomed

Requirements:
Current StandardFirst Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate
Post-Secondarystudent in a related field (e.g. Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Recreationand Business, Early Childhood Education, Education)
Between 15 and 30years of age
Registered as a full-timestudent in the previous academic year, and intends to return to school on afull-time basis in the next academic year (proof of student status will berequired)
Available to workfull-time hours for entire contract (no exceptions will be made)
Two yearsexperience working with children and families in a recreational setting
Previousexperience supervising staff and volunteers an asset
Someexperience with the game of golf, including knowledge of the rules of golf, isan asset
Strong planning, organizational,leadership, and communication skills
Ability to workindependently as well as part of a larger team
Experience withdeveloping and facilitating community-based programming and services for a widedemographic base an asset Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date 3 professional references
