To provide computer technical support to the Faculty of LA&PS including installation and update of software, ongoing hardware and software support as well as administrative support for Computer Lab.

Education:
Completion of a University degree or a three year Community College Programme in Computer Science or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Two years’ directly related experience in computer/workstation hardware/software installation and support in a Novell networked environment.

Skills:
Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas:
Excellent oral and written communication skills including obtaining good problem descriptions from clients and presenting technical material in an easily understood manner; excellent customer relations, particularly in establishing cooperative and effective working relationships; working independently and organizing work tasks within defined priorities; computer hardware/software installation and configuration; diagnosing and resolving hardware and software problems associated with computers, work stations and peripherals.

Intermediate Knowledge of:
A variety of application-oriented software, including wordprocessing, spreadsheet and database applications; PC/Work Station Operating Systems (Unix, MS-DOS/Windows, Apple System); several programming languages (Visual Basic, C++ and Java).

Basic Knowledge of:
LAN’s, network software and system administration (Unix and Novell Netware); communications-related software (TCP/IP, FTP & Telnet) and Internet applications (Netscape and Internet Explorer Browsers).

Preferred Knowledge of:
Advanced mathematics (calculus, statistical) emphasizing the use of quantitative methods; Statistical packages (e.g. SAS, SPSS, SPLUS, Minitab); multimedia application development; E-mail systems (e.g. Lotus Notes).
