To contribute to student success, satisfaction and retention in the Faculty of Health by providing student advising for all new and continuing students in relation to the Faculty of Health’s various degree programs (e.g. BA, BHS, BSc, BScN) and certificates; respond to atypical and complex enquiries and referrals; support and enhance advising initiatives at all levels (Faculty, School/Departmental). Interpret complex Faculty and University policies, procedures and regulations with respect to individual student records. Identity and participate in problem resolution with reference to individual students. In consultation with the management team, and in cooperation with University services, foster and realize a climate of student centredness, service excellence and continuous improvement. In coordination with Centre staff and management team, participate in the development and continuous refinement of advising services, including, but not limited to presentation material and online advising tools to support group and one-on-one advising activities. Present orientation and advising information and materials to large and small audiences using online, web and print resources and information. Conduct one-on- one advising appointments. Participate in retention exercises.

Education:
University degree or equivalent.

Experience:
Minimum 2 years academic advising experience including: interpreting, applying and relaying complex policies and legislation; experience advising within a developmental framework on a variety of matters related to academic programs and assessing student academic records, in a student services area.

Knowledge of and ability to use/apply a wide range of resources and/or strategies in complex situations. Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively to accomplish objectives in an environment of competing priorities and constant interruption. Exercising initiative and working as an effective member of a team to achieve and support unit goals. Ability to contribute to decisions as a member of a team and to support outcomes. Solid decision-making skills. Time management and organizational skills to simultaneously handle conflicting priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines. Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to support the needs of a changing student body and to adapt to new or changing operational processes, procedures and application tools. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations. Good written communication skills. Experience using SIS or equivalent student records system/database. Intermediate proficiency using PowerPoint and MS Word, lotus notes email (or equivalent), familiarity and ability to use online resources and applications/tools, demonstrated ability to navigate web resources (internet).
