Reporting to the Supervisor, Social Assistance, or the Supervisor, Child and Community Programs, is responsible for assessing the eligibility of applicants for financial and/or employment assistance through Ontario Works; verifying the clients information as required; developing service plans and implementing and delivering financial and support services to clients in the appropriate Program; counselling and directing the client to appropriate training, employment, health, social services and community services programs; disbursing and/or collecting monies from the client, or on his/her behalf; and managing the clients progress through planned steps and actions to exit social assistance.
Qualifications Successful completion of a Community College Diploma Program in Social Work, Social Science, or a related program.
One to three (1-3) years of experience in a social service environment, including one (1) year of direct Ontario Works case worker experience.
Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
Satisfactory Police Criminal Background Check.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
Knowledge of industry-related legislation and regulations applicable to the service/program delivered (i.e. Ontario Works Act or Ontario Disability Support Program Act) community resources, including health, counselling and employment programs and services.
Demonstrated case management and file administration skills.
Strong problem solving, conflict resolution, mediation and counselling skills.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications.
Ability to perform financial calculations for the purpose of allowances and benefit calculation.
Ability to work cooperatively with individuals, agencies, and other service professionals to develop opportunities for the client and conduct interviews and meetings in offices, homes and other off-site locations.
Ability to compile statistical data and reports for the purposes of review and evaluation.
Ability to relate to clients in an empathetic yet objective professional manner.
Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
