Fitness Coach 2 & Personal Trainer
Contract – Maternity Leave Coverage
YMCA Membership Branch – Walker (St. Catharines)
Hiring salary: $27,955.20 annually plus YMCA Benefits
Start date: October 1, 2016 End Date: October 1, 2017
Full-time – 40 per week; mornings, evenings, weekends (flexibility required)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or Diploma is required, in a related field preferred (Health Sciences, Phys Ed.)
  • YMCA Canada IC2 required*
  • Minimum of 2 YMCA Group Fitness Certification required (Aquatic Fitness and

Choreography required)**

  • Proven customer service skills
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year practical experience in the fitness industry
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year (or more) experience coaching individuals who are new

or returning to fitness

  • Current standard first aid and CPR-(C) certification[within 2 years from date of issue]
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening [within 1 year from date of

issue]

  • Flexibility; willingness to learn new skills and to alter shifts
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • note: Applicant with other recognized national fitness certifications may challenge the YMCA

Basic Theory and Individual Conditioning 2 exams, and complete a Practical Evaluation to
receive equivalency. A passing grade of 80% is required for all components as well as a
minimum score of 2.5 on the practical evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide fitness coaching/training services in both one-on-one and group formats;

deliver service as part of the YMCA of Niagara Personal Fitness Program

  • Maintain positive relationships with members through ongoing connections
  • Coach members to reach their fitness goals
  • Teach Aquatic Fitness where schedule requires
  • Teach other Group Fitness Classes where schedule requires
  • Orient all new fitness members to the YMCA resources available to them
  • Accountable for pre and post appointment calls
  • Engage and connect with new members to ensure that available appointments are

booked whenever possible

  • Build relationships with members in order to optimize members’ experience and help them to achieve their

fitness goals

  • Provide expertise with Group Training (YMCA Kick Start program, Gravity at the Walker Family Branch,

Group Fitness orientations, etc.)

  • Teach a minimum of 2 Group or Aquatic Fitness classes
  • Accountable for following systems, practices and targets which support Member Retention
  • Monitor member development and progress. Provide feedback to the member that is constructive,

positive and specific to the member goals.

  • Approach members and assist them with their fitness progress
  • Maintain and update Member Fitness Records
  • Ensure a safe, clean and well maintained environment
  • Maintain SAM 2.1 Standards
  • Adhere to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures as established by the YMCA of Niagara
  • Promote YMCA programs and services
  • Other duties as required
