Nature and Scope: YMCA Youth Employment programs are designed to support youth with barriers to employment to develop fundamental life, social and employability skills. This occurs through a series of workshops and training sessions followed by practical work experience. This position has the primary responsibility for facilitating workshops, and working directly with participants of the program, setting up work placements and providing on-going follow-up supports. The position will also involve assisting in setting up structure and process for the delivery of the program, outreach to the community in order to promote and recruit participants, and establishing connections with businesses in order to develop job opportunities as participants move towards employment. The work environment is very fast-paced, with a high volume of program participants. The incumbent will work directly within a team of three staff.

Major Responsibilities:

 Develop and facilitate life, employability, social and computer skills workshops

 Assist program participants in the creation of an Action Plan to map out goals for employment and/or training

 Relationship building with multiple stakeholders including referral agencies and community organizations (in particular, those working with youth with mental illness), government agencies and businesses

 Conduct outreach in order to engage and recruit suitable participants

 Recruit potential employers for work and volunteer opportunities for participants

 Match participants with employers that align with their goals and that will support long term attachment to the labour market

 Support participants through employment site visits, in-person or remote check ins, consulting with other

appropriate supports where required

 Provide follow up support to program participants who have completed the program

 Maintain accurate case notes, reports and statistical information Qualifications:

 Post-Secondary Degree or Certificate in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience

 Experience working with youth or persons facing barriers due to challenges with mental illness

 Experience with developing and facilitating community based programming and services

 Established relationships within the local business community and proven track record in job placement recruitment

 Strong facilitation skills with proven experience in developing curriculum in life, employability and computer skills within an employment program setting

 Ability to be flexible, adaptable and multi-task in high demand environment

 Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

 Computer proficient – Microsoft Office (including EXCEL and Outlook)

 High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment

 First Aid/CPR-C Certificate required

 Proven responsibility to coordinate tasks and work as part of a team

 Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
