The YMCA of Greater Saint John is a charity offering opportunities for per-
sonal growth, community involvement and leadership. As a member of our
Child Care Staff you will play an essential role in the well-being and safety of
children and participants. You will be responsible to ensure the safety and
upkeep of our specified YMCA sites while demonstrating and following our
mission and vision within the YMCA.

Educator will play an essential role in children’s learning and growth, includ-
ing physical and social development in a safe and child-centered environ-


  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care faculties

standards, Child Protection Practices. Plans and implements a consistent
child-centred program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick
standards. Understands and complies with YMCA Playing to Learn and
the New Brunswick Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to children’s learning and is responsible to

research; with focus around the value of play and relationship based

  • Understands each child and their family’s specific needs and plans for

successful out comes.

  • Models appropriate behaviours to staff in line with our Mission, Vision

and Values; established rapport and maintains effective relationship
building behaviour with staff, volunteers and members.

  • Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
  • Self manages on-going professional development and will attend 3 core

training within the year and a half of employment, along with any other
additional training sessions offered.

  • Enrols, participants and implements Playing to Learn and New Brunswick

Early Learning Curriculum training within first year of employment out-
side of normal working hours.

  • Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism

and impacts this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers and mem-

  • Ensures that all daily routines are followed, documented and completed

in a timely fashion.

  • Attend monthly staff meetings and quarterly department meetings.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures outlined in the Y’s employee and

NB Child Care Operator Standards. Adheres to record keeping as out-
lined by the Department of Social Development. Enrols, participates and

implements Playing to Learn and New Brunswick Early Learning Curricu-
lum training.

  • Ensures that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by reporting supervisor.

Qualifications and experience

  • ECE certificate or equivalent training as per licensing standards.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a Child Care, After-School or

Youth program preferred.

  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours and site locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication, customer service skills, and a team player.
  • First Aid/CPR is preferred, however will be offered within employment.
  • Medical Certificate.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with

Vulnerable Sector Search and a Social Development Record Check.
