The YMCA of Greater Saint John is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. As a member of our After School Program Staff you will play an essential role in the well-being and safety of children and participants. You will be responsible to ensure the safety and upkeep of our specified YMCA sites while demonstrating and following our mission and vision within the YMCA.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Support Worker: Support workers will create and follow an individual program plan for a specific child, while interacting and forming relationships will all individuals in the program. Daily journals will be completed and shared with parents and all members of the team. Individuals will form relationships with children and their families to create a safe, welcoming environment for all.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards, Child Protection and Abuse Protocols.
  • Plans and implements a consistent child-centered program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
  • Understands YMCA Healthy Child Development Program and incorporates into programming.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to children’s learning and is responsive to research. Educators will be required to be adaptable and flexible to the changes which are brought forward on a daily basis within the operations of the centre as well as the YMCA of Greater Saint John as a whole.
  • Build relationships with children and their families to better understand their specific needs in order to plan effective strategies.
  • Models appropriate behaviours to staff in line with our Mission, Vision and Values; establishes rapport and maintains effective relationship building behaviour with staff, volunteers and members.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a Child Care, After School or Youth program.
  • Seizure and Autism experience an asset.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours and location.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • First Aid/CPR is an asset, will be provided within first month of employment.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search along with clearance from Department of Social Development.
  • Medical Certificate.
