partnerships with people? Do you want to grow and learn in your career? If so, this might be the right fit for you!

Who we are…
The YMCAs of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo is one of the community’s largest non-profit organizations. We are
dedicated to the enrichment of our communities through the development of people and families. Through our work we
foster belonging and wellbeing, and dedicate ourselves to building a healthy and vibrant community every day.

What you will do…
As a wellness facilitator, you will be responsible for assisting the Wellness Supervisor in delivering and developing programs
to participants with chronic diseases and disabilities at the YMCA. You will help deliver appropriate exercise prescriptions
to individuals and help with designing and supervising exercise sessions for participants with certain health issues (such as
heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, spinal cord injury, MS, and Parkinson’s). You will also provide ongoing
psychosocial support during exercise classes and assist new participants with their exercise routine and recording of
information (such as blood pressure and blood sugars). You will provide motivational support to participants regarding long-
term behavioural modification, assist the Wellness Supervisor with the evaluation and development of wellness programs
and to ensure a safe and clean environment is maintained at all times. You will also assist program participants in
recognizing the signs and symptoms of exercise intolerance and cardiovascular stress and other health concerns, provide
leadership and direction to volunteers or students assisting in the delivery of the wellness programs and provide a proactive
approach with members and participants assisting them with any needs inquiries or concerns. You will facilitate participant
assessments at intake and exit of program, deliver and collect group surveys, provide personal feedback to program team
regarding program delivery and content to participants. A large part of this role from date of commencement to December
2018 will be the development and implementation of a senior mentorship initiative aimed at breaking down barriers for
individuals who are 65+ years of age. You will also attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required
and also assume other duties as assigned.

What you will bring…
Ideally, you will have completed a university or college degree or diploma, have a YMCA Individual Conditioning Instructor
Certificate, cardiac and diabetes training, Standard First aid and CPR training, acquired your YMCA Group Fitness Instructor
Certification, have strong communication skills and leadership skills, have effective and thoughtful judgement and an
acceptable up to date police vulnerable sector check. We also ask that you have 1-2 years of relevant experience as the
client group has specific challenges requiring some experience in problem solving and managing.

What you will gain…
You will be an integral part of the YMCA Wellness team at the Chaplin Family YMCA. You will be joining a dynamic team
that is dedicated to providing an optimal exercise environment in our programs to as many adults with chronic diseases and
disabilities as we can. You will be doing work that has a large and positive impact in many communities. If you are looking
for a challenge that will make a difference – this is it.
