Association Services – Eau Claire YMCA*

Salary: $65,000- $75,000/year

*What qualifications are we looking for?

  • At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
  • Professional accounting designation preferred – newly designated CPA with good standing – or currently enrolled in the CPA program and working towards designation;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in public/private accounting preferred, experience working in a not-for-profit organization or charity being an asset;
  • Supervisory experience is an asset;
  • Previous experience with Great Plains Dynamics, Management Report Designer, and/or Forecaster is considered an asset;
  • Ability to manage the integration of multiple software systems and manage various projects with strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong technical accounting skills, restricted fund accounting knowledge being an asset;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills that allow you to build strong relationships with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders;
  • Highly organized team-player with great attention to detail and strong analytical skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Evidence of a clear police security clearance including a vulnerable sector search;
  • Three professional references, including previous employers;

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

The Assistant Controller, reporting directly to the Controller, will:

  • Manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end task completion with accounting team;
  • Month-end and year-end closing of the books in Great Plains, including pulling financial statements in Management Report Designer;
  • Assist in organizing accounting meetings;
  • Provide back-up to accounting team of 3 staff (become cross-trained) for periods of prolonged absence;
  • Complete monthly GST return and reconciliations;
  • Complete the monthly reporting of investments;
  • Manages capital asset working papers on monthly basis;
  • Set up/maintain vendors in Great Plains;
  • Review accounts payable invoice entry batches on a weekly basis; monthly review of certain expense reconciliations;
  • Review accounts receivable invoices;
  • Review monthly journal entries;
  • Creating/managing GL accounts across Great Plains, Management Report Designer and Forecaster;
  • Monitors cash position of bank accounts;
  • Assist Controller in preparation of information for compliance reporting;
  • Assist Controller in preparation of year-end adjustments and working papers for the annual audit;
  • Prepares the Annual Charity Information Return (T3010) as well as internal financial reports for YMCA Canada Statistics for review by the Controller/CFO;
  • Manages day-to-day accounting concerns/issues in the organization;
  • Accepts a variety of special projects requested by the Controller/CFO.
