The Network Analyst is responsible for the development, maintenance and technical support of the WCB’s network, computer and telecommunication technologies. The Network Analyst performs technical tasks associated with the introduction of new systems and the re-engineering of existing systems. The Network Analyst ensures the availability, integrity, efficiency and currency of WCB’s computers, networks and associated products and also provides technical assistance to internal staff, the systems development area and project teams.

WCB is seeking an experienced Network Analyst to be part of our Network and Data Centre Services Support team. This position is responsible for ensuring the overall performance, availability and security of the WCB network. Knowledge and experience in implementing and supporting CISCO technology both in data and voice and network security technologies (ie. Firewalls, Virtual Private Network, Intrusion Detection) is an asset.

Job Duties:
Provides technical expertise and participates in developing the physical computing architecture for WCB.

Provides technical advice and problem resolution support for computer, telecommunications and network related situations.

Maintains the availability and performance of the network infrastructure, including server, storage and workstation services, mobile devices and computer peripheral equipment. Perform system administration activities necessary to support and maintain currency of the computing environment.

Performs comprehensive testing and implementation of new computer related products, including creating and maintaining separate test and production environments, documenting procedures and training computer services staff on the new products.

Assists in use-of-technology design including cost estimation, benefit analysis, recommendation of methods and alternatives and implementation in cooperation with all WCB staff.

Recommends and implements hardware and software solutions that are compatible with the current WCB technical environment.

Corrects and modifies the computer environment in order to resolve emergency problems, which includes analyzing and defining the scope of the problem, troubleshooting operational difficulties and applying computer system changes or purges.

Makes judgment calls when solving technical problems as to what resources (internal and external) need to be involved.

Participates on project teams in hardware, software or application studies and provides support to all other members of the Networks and Computer Operations group.

Installs new system products on a variety of hardware and operating system platforms. Ensures reliable, finely tuned and high-performing computing platforms; responsible for system backups, data storage, archiving and recovery to safeguard WCB’s data integrity.

Implements computer security services and mechanisms, such as encryption, digital signature, access control, data integrity, authentication, traffic padding, routing control and notarization.

Documents and enforces security requirements.

Liaises with external suppliers of information technology good and services.

Conducts research on and keeps abreast of, new trends in the information technology field.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Two (2) year Diploma in Computers or four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from a recognized post secondary institution, preferably from a program that has been accredited by CIPS (Canadian Information Processing Society)

Minimum five (5) years practical experience in the design, implementation and support of a Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL Server environment within a local and wide area network

Experience in designing and developing automated test procedures and scripts using software aids.

Experience in the integration and connectivity of LANS and WANS in a switched network environment including the use of VLANs

Working knowledge of client-server Windows, TCP/IP, application interface (ODBC), file server and network products

Familiarity with client-server operating systems and development languages, Windows utilities, and anti-virus packages

Detailed knowledge of current technologies and technology trends, including open systems standards

Understanding of a variety of technologies such as storage area networks, networking security including firewall, web application environments, content management systems, and virtual computing environments

Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and software in a Windows environment

Familiarity with video/multimedia technologies and wireless telecommunication technologies

Ability to accurately interpret and execute complex technical instructions

Ability to conduct research and capacity planning; ability to perceive and interpret user needs correctly

Strong analytical and problem solving skills along with the ability to work effectively under pressure

Ability to adapt to sudden changes in direction or priority

Ability to organize and manage several projects simultaneously

Effective written and oral communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
