Terms: 1 year contract, 37.5 hours weekly
Salary: $51, 000 annually
The purpose of the Creating Safety: Supporting Human Trafficking Survivors in York Region project is to reduce the risk of further victimization of women and girls who are trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) in York Region.
Major Responsibilities include:
- Provide immediate crisis support and comprehensive case management to identified sexually exploited women and girls
- Provide for practical needs for trafficked women and girls, such as hygiene products, transportation costs and food vouchers
- Increase comprehensive community support for trafficked victims through appropriate referral to other organizations, including social service agencies, police and criminal justice partners
- On a two week rotational basis, perform the role of staff back-up for volunteers responding to calls on WSN’s 24-hour crisis line
Qualifications:
- A woman with lived experience of CSE and/or has been identified as being at-risk of trafficking is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of human trafficking for the purpose of CSE from an integrative anti-racist, feminist, anti-oppression gender-based analysis
- Specialized knowledge of trauma, mental health and substance abuse issues.
- Minimum two years experience providing crisis support and case management with trafficked/at-risk women and girls (i.e. street-involved youth, youth in care, Aboriginal women and newcomer women).
- Demonstrated experience outreaching to and collaborating with diverse stakeholders (i.e. youth serving organizations, CAS, sex worker advocacy groups, police, women’s services, politicians and faith groups)
- A valid driver’s license and daily access to a reliable vehicle
- Related post-secondary education
- Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
- A second language is an asset
