The Opportunity
The Director of Sales for Canada is responsible for the development and implementation for the total sales effort within the Canadian market. This will include growing existing home improvement and home décor accounts by providing day-to-day account management, securing new accounts, managing relationships, supporting corporate programs and maintaining customer satisfaction. As the company deploys an organic growth strategy, the Director of Sales will be responsible for hitting his/her revenue targets within and reporting sales to plan on a monthly basis. The Director of Sales will report to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing and will work out of a home-office and will be required to travel frequently.

Position Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor overall performance against sales margin, and supply chain objectives.
  • Introduce and promote new product lines, pricing structures and pricing changes.
  • Assist staff at corporate headquarters with tactical planning in support of the sales plan.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of both the current and future category and product needs
  • Provide internal guidance through the Vendor Guide and Vendor Scorecard.
  • Lead both the strategic and tactical planning for expanding business in Canada.
  • Monitor and assess the competition in terms of products, practices, merchandising displays, pricing, and performance.
  • Monitor competitor prices and evaluate against corporate pricing.
  • Recommend price changes and lead implementation.
  • Support and evaluate all corporate programs currently in place.
  • Develop and manage all third party sales service providers to support the corporate programs in place.
  • Oversee the selection of any third party sales service providers required to support the business
  • Train and develop any third party sales service agencies in support of our brands.
  • Develop the annual sales and marketing plan for Canada, and report monthly progress to sales plan on a rolling six-month calendar
  • Keep up to date on new product offerings, obsolete products, accounts’ receivables, etc.
  • Lead promotional and advertising initiatives to grow business
  • Provide monthly and/or ad-hoc updates to Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service, Procurement and Accounts Receivable departments on a regular basis. Assist all corporate departments when requested.

Background Experience

  • 10+ years of experience as a National Account Manager, preferably in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry with a focus on home improvement and decor.
  • Excellent understanding of the Canadian retail and distribution market with hands-on experience in similar product lines.
  • Verifiable history of personally exceeding revenue targets.
  • Strategic and financial planning knowledge and experience.
  • Sales planning experience at the major account level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Hold at least a two-year degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Sales and/or Marketing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the innate ability to build relationships.
  • Demonstrated degree of passion and energy with laser focus on execution and results.
  • Have a team-based leadership approach
  • Highly focused and organized individual who initiates as opposed to reacts.
  • Proven “take-charge” record of accomplishment.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to make decisions and sound judgment calls.
