Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
Successful completion of a recognized secretarial training program required.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Typing 50 wpm and m edical terminology [75% pass mark] required.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word and Access) required.
One year previous related experience in a medical setting required.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English (oral and written) and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Must be highly motivated, detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.
Must be able to work independently and cooperatively.
Preference will be given to candidates competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledgeable in Aboriginal customs, beliefs, and practices.
This position is subject to a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), an Adult Abuse Registry Check, and a Child Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
Reporting to the Administrative Assistant, the incumbent is responsible for the effective, efficient provision of clerical and receptionist support to the Genetics and Metabolism Program including all clinicians (5) and Genetic Counsellors. Duties include: Typing a variety of patient related correspondence and other material from dictaphone or rough draft. Entering patient demographics into computer database and initiating patient reports that are required. Acting as receptionist for the Program’s general office, answering telephone calls, determining their nature and urgency, and greeting and directing visitors to the area. Maintaining computerized patient database and departmental filing system. Miscellaneous clerical duties.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Must work effectively under pressure and with frequent interruptions. Prolonged physical activities may include: sitting, bending, lifting and loading/unloading chart bins weighing approximately 25 lbs.
Salary: Effective April 1, 2015 – $18.355, $18.905, $19.472, $20.057, $20.658, $21.278 C.U.P.E. Contract
