PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Resident Services the recreation facilitator will plan and provide Therapeutic Recreation Services for patients / residents in accordance with overall goals based on assessment of the patients / residents.
  • Assess and treat patients / residents, as required, in accordance with Therapeutic Recreation Standards of Practice.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation individual and group programs, for patients / residents service areas.
  • Prepare reports for resident care conferences, attending care conference if requested.
  • Maintain progress records, monthly reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are purchased and maintained to support successful programs.
  • Support and participate in a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient/resident care.
  • Participate in volunteer/student management process.
  • Transport patients/residents to and from programs as required.
  • Participates in Emergency codes as required/directed.
  • Satisfactory employment record required.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Graduate of Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults from Red River College Certificate Program or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience in the provision of recreation services in a health care setting preferred.
  • Experience in working with the older adult preferred.
  • Recommended membership in Therapeutic Recreation Manitoba or equivalent.
  • Food Handler Certificate required.
  • Participation in the Recreation Facilitator Interest group encouraged.
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices.
  • Regional, site and unit policies and procedures.
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to relate to people in a tactful, courteous and reassuring manner.
  • Ability to organize and establish priorities and respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to be discreet and confidential in all hospital/patient/resident related matters.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the position demands .
  • Satisfactory employment record required.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
