  • Bachelor degree in Recreation Studies or Bachelor of Recreation Management and Community Development or recreation degree determined to be equivalent by TRM.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with WRHA policy #20.20.210.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention preferred.
  • Membership in TRM preferred.
  • 1-2 years recent experience working with individuals/groups in a health care environment preferred.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of social, recreational and leisure programming and recreation resources.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to function in a computerized environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, creativity, sound judgment and problem solving skills in all areas of practice.
  • Personal maturity and the ability to accept responsibility for actions and decisions are mandatory.
  • Preference will be given to candidates competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledgeable in Aboriginal customs, beliefs, and practices.

Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Patient Care and direction from the Discipline Director, the incumbent contributes to the recovery of individuals experiencing developmental, cognitive, emotional, social, physical or coping difficulties through the delivery of group and/or individual therapeutic recreation interventions that include: Therapy to improve functional capabilities, well-being and facilitate independence in positive leisure pursuits; Leisure Education to enhance and promote life-long recreation skills and attitudes; Recreation Participation to promote health and personal growth through leisure and recreation experiences which contribute to the maintenance of physical, emotional and mental well-being during hospital admissions, and; Community Re-integration to provide assistance and support in removing physical and psychological barriers that impede participation in community recreation programs and services.

Salary: Effective April 1, 2013 – $22.956, $23.851, $24.773, $25.749, $26.757, $27.935 MAHCP
