QUALIFICATIONS :
Completion of grade 12 or equivalent required.

Experience working in direct patient care area required.

Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certificate required.

Health Care Assistant Certification or equivalent education required.

Non-violent crisis training or equivalent required.

Demonstrated excellent communication skills with a patient focused approach required.

Considerable strength and the ability to withstand continuous extensive lifting and moving.

Well organized individual.

Excellent deportment.

Ability to perform the position on a regular basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
Demonstrated ability to provide continuous quality services.

Performs basic direct patient care functions under the direction of the registered nurse.

Assists with care of body after death.

Sets up traction equipment

Attends at scene of code white (66 & 65) calls and restrains patients as needed under the direction of the code leader

Attends at scene of code blue calls and assists as required.

Attends at scene of code red bringing portable fire extinguisher.

Orders and Distributes linen to patient care areas as required.

Assists with heavy moving/lifting as required.

Maintains current CPR certification.

Collects soiled supplies and linen.

Various sorting, checking, wrapping, transporting, loading and unloading procedures as required.

Fills requisitions from user areas.

Maintains replaces and/or delivers required quotas of supplies for area of assigned responsibility.

Maintains confidentiality and professional conduct in all matters pertaining to hospital, patients, families, staff members and suppliers.

Operates manual or electrical equipment necessary to the job function.

Temporarily relieves, replaces or assists other staff.

In the absence of Manger takes direction from Facility Patient Care Manager or on call manager as required.

Responds to all code 25 calls for porter on a stat basis

Responds to all pages on pocket pager and overhead pages on an immediate basis.

Operates portable radio and communication devices to receive and send messages following appropriate protocol.

Adheres to all safety and health regulations and demonstrates safe work practices.

Other related duties as assigned.

Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more EFT positions greater than 1.0 combined across the WRHA legal entity (Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA Corporate Programs, WRHA Community Health Services).
