• A Baccalaureate degree in a relevant health care profession or a diploma in a relevant health care profession with a non health care Baccalaureate Degree (e.g. Arts, Science, etc.) is required.
• If the Baccalaureate degree is not in a relevant health care profession (as stated above), the successful candidate will be required to complete either a Baccalaureate degree or a Graduate degree in a relevant field of study within a five-year period, in order to remain in the position.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as recognized by the Centre may be considered. Should a candidate without a Baccalaureate degree be the successful candidate, that individual will be required to complete a degree within a five-year period in order to remain in the position.
• Minimum three years current, relevant clinical experience and minimum one-year leadership experience in a health care setting required.
• Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the appropriate professional association required.
• Current B.L.S. registration at the Targeted Responder level is required.
• Formal management training preferred.
• Knowledge of: Regional/site/unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines relating to: clinical care, administrative, financial, and human resource management. Standards and scope of practice for direct reports; Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts; Continuum of Services/Community Resources; Risk Management Strategies; Quality Improvement Processes; Management Principles; Relative Collective Agreements; Principals of delegation; Roles and responsibilities of the health care team.
• Ability to lead interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform both independently and as a team member and to delegate appropriately and supervise performance of staff.
• Ability to prioritize workload and attend to unit operations in a timely manner.
• Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.

• Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
• Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledge in Aboriginal customs, beliefs, and practices.

Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Patient Services/Director, Central Support Services or designate, the Manager of Patient Care provides leadership for the health care team in promoting patient centered care. The Manager of Patient Care ensures that adequate human and material resources are available to support the 24-hour delivery of safe, quality patient care. The incumbent creates an environment that enables the Facility/Region to fulfill its mission and performance goals. The Manager of Patient Care seeks to promote and maintain a positive, professional, team oriented and service conscious environment. Demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Salary: commensurate with education and qualifications

Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more EFT positions greater than 1.0 combined across the WRHA legal entity (Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA Corporate Programs, WRHA Community Health Services).
