  • Must have a minimum education of Grade XII diploma.
  • Preference given to applicants with a diploma/certificate in Disability and Community Support Program or other relevant training.
  • Previous experience and/or education on Behaviour Management and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Must be willing to participate in developmental programs relevant to the individual’s care.
  • Must be able and willing to assist individuals with decreasing aggressive behaviors.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working within a team.
  • Must have current Emergency First Aid certification. (8 hours)
  • Must have current basic CPR certification.
  • Must have current Class 5 Drivers License in good standing
  • Commitment to the Mission and Philosophy of St. Amant and the Community Residential Program.
  • Must have or be willing to take tube feeding training – (Designated Positions)
  • Must have or be willing to be trained to assist with diabetic management (including insulin administration) – (Designated Positions)
  • Training in American Sign language – (Designated Positions)
  • Must be completely fluent in French and English – (Designated Positions)
  • Ability to successfully complete the Specialized Behavior Management Training Course where required.
  • Ability to successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training where required.

  • Assist individuals as necessary with activities of daily living.
  • Monitor and assess health needs and provide or access appropriate health care for illness, injury, or trauma.
  • Assist individuals to plan for and access a variety of community resources and activities.
  • Guiding and directing individuals in areas of socially acceptable behavior.
  • Provides adequate supervision and ensures safety within a least restrictive environment.
  • Recognizes potential crisis and intervenes effectively in preventing and/or resolving potential crisis situations.
  • Foster healthy lifestyle by initiating and assisting individuals to access their community to meet medical, recreational, educational, and social needs.
  • Implement all goals and plans set out in each individual’s support plan.
  • Ensure fire safety, public health, and licensing standards are maintained as stated in the Program Manual, and Residential Care Licensing Manual.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and related in-services that occur within the home.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Administer medications as necessary.
  • Keep records and documentation as required by supervisor.
  • Foster spirituality by accompanying and assisting individuals to access their local parish and attend community events.
  • Act as an advocate for individuals as necessary.
  • Provide staffing coverage during in-services, holidays and resident illness
  • or proceed with Standard Application Form.
