  • Grade XII education.
  • Ability to accurately understand, follow and convey verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to do heavy manual work.
  • Valid certification of a recognized Food Handler’s Certificate is required.
  • Previous experience in food service is an asset.
  • Satisfactory employment record is required.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills are required.

Working Conditions:

  • Working alone.
  • Opening receiving doors and working in cold drafts.
  • Operating re-thermalization equipment.
  • Standing 95% of shift.
  • Pushing and pulling carts, dollies and angle racks.
  • Opening doors.


  • Receives trayed and bulk food supplies meals at Receiving dock as per established schedule.
  • Porters chilled trays to retherm carts within specified areas of the kitchen.
  • Checks meal trays prior to retherm and confirm that meals are inserted into rethermalization unit correctly.
  • Completes temperature audits.
  • Initiates the retherm cycle and monitors retherm.
  • Issues, orders, receives and monitors ward stocks.
  • Receives, verifies and stores supplies from vendors as required throughout the day.
  • Consults with Supervisor/Manager of errors and/or shorts.
  • Delivers ready- to-serve food trays to wards and retrieves soiled trays from wards after meal service.
  • Retrieves soiled racks of carts from wards and porters them back to the receiving dock at established times during the day so that the trucking group can return the dishware for washing to the RDF.
  • Performs established cleaning duties in kitchen area and warehouse Operates and maintains kitchen equipment according to safe operating/cleaning procedures and manuals.
  • Helps out in dishroom and potwash area as required.
  • Cleans equipment in production area as required. Communicates with Diet Office /Supervisor if a delivery is late or if there is another challenge impacting on timely meal service.
  • Performs other duties as required. Performs beltline procedures as per “Contingency Plan” in case of an emergency, disaster or missed delivery.
  • By means of the “Buddy System”, familiarizes new staff members with duties of their position, as required.
