POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves attractive meals to customers and keeps the Cafeteria properly cleaned and sanitized. Performs cash duties as required. Courteous and effective customer service is a critical component of this position. Duties are performed while maintaining high standards of safety and sanitation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 12 education
• Ability to accurately understand, follow and convey verbal and written instructions in English
• Proficiency in arithmetic calculations and conversions
• A knowledge of institutional food service and related work experience is preferred
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
• Previous cash handling procedure knowledge
• Valid certification of a recognized Food Handler’s Course is required

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Ability to do heavy manual work
• Pushing & Pulling of dish racks often up inclines
• Standing 100% of shift

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares cold foods for the Cafeteria and catering requests with creativity and following
established and portioning techniques.
2. Retherms hot food items as required.
3. Prepares coffee and maintains the coffee urns/machines as per established procedures.
4. Serves food in the Cafeteria according to portion guidelines.
5. Helps serve at catering events and clean up catered rooms i.e. conference rooms,
boardroom, classrooms, auditorium, cafeteria as required.
6. Performs cashier duties as required, including cashing out preparing cash reports,
counting float, etc.
7. Performs dishroom duties as required.
8. Replenishes supplies and maintains cleanliness in the Cafeteria and seating area as
required, according to established procedures.
9. Assists in the general preparation of the dining room prior to the serving of meals.
10. Keeps the Cafeteria properly cleaned and sanitized as per established procedure.
11. By means of the “Buddy System”, familiarizes new staff members with duties of their position, as required.
12. Operates and maintains equipment according to safe operating/cleaning procedures
and manuals. Communicates to the Retail Services Coordinator any concerns related to the safe and efficient operation of the cafeteria equipment.
13. Maintains menu board with up-to-date information on a daily basis.
14. Actively participates in the Department’s Continuous Improvement Program and educational events as appropriate.
15. Performs other related duties as required.
