Basic Function

Under general supervision, performs a variety of member client service transactions within clearly defined policies and procedures. Duties include providing over-the-counter deposit services such as: accepting deposits, cashing cheques, processing bill payments, calculating foreign and domestic exchange, processing loan payments and selling negotiable items (i.e. traveler’s cheques, money orders and drafts). The position is responsible for responding to member client inquiries and taking action to reconcile discrepancies in records and accounts. Routinely receives and pays cash or other negotiable items, is responsible for custody, balancing and security of cash, maintains assigned cash limits and balances transactions daily. Perform a variety of routine accounting functions including the reconciliation or balancing of subsidiary financial controls and financial control reports. The position responds to member client inquiries on all credit union products and services and identifies opportunities to cross sell or refer sales opportunities and opening and closing accounts to other staff. You will contribute to the overall success of Westoba by providing a high level of service consistent with “The Winning Play for Tellers & Sales and Service Partners” to all our members and Sales and Service partners.

Duties & Responsibilities

Sales & Service:

  • Receives cash and cheques for deposit, verifies amounts and examines cheques for validity and endorsement and processes transactions accurately.
  • Cash cheques and withdrawal receipts within assigned limits, paying out money after verifying signature and member identity and checking for coverage.
  • Process other transactions as requested by member clients including transfers, bill payments, loan payments and plastic card advances.
  • Sell domestic and foreign money orders, drafts and traveler’s cheques and calculate domestic and foreign exchange as requested by member clients.
  • Increase transaction usage of products and services by cross selling and upselling plastic cards, insurance products, safety deposit boxes, equity plans, [email protected] & Teleservice services.
  • Identify opportunities to promote, upsell, and cross sell all credit union investment products, credit products and commercial products and process referrals to appropriate staff member for future investigation.
  • Respond to member telephone inquires as determined by the branch organizational structure by answering the telephone and responding to member needs.
  • Utilize the “Winning Play for Tellers & Sales and Service Partners” in every interaction with internal and external members. Will adhere to “Our Service Code” to develop delighted members and exception member interactions.
  • Administration:

  • Print & verify outgoing clearing list by balancing clearing list, prepare deposit and microfilm deposits and encode if applicable.
  • Process traveler’s cheques, money orders and drafts by balancing account, remitting funds to CUCM and microfilming remittances, if applicable.
  • Process incoming and outgoing wires and update records, if applicable.
  • Process postdates items, commercial drop items, and night deposits.
  • Reconcile bill payments and government remittances by balancing the account, preparing remittances to appropriate vendor and microfilming remittances, if applicable.
  • File reports, and other credit union documents as required.
  • *Administrative functions may be rotated quarterly to ensure cross training and subject to volumes and timetables.

    Risk Management & Internal Control:

  • Maintain custody of cash drawer and daily cash holdings and reconcile cash on hand at the end of each day with receipts and disbursements.
  • Maintain joint custody of night deposits by verifying and posting of deposits received.
  • Read and comprehend all related policies and procedures relating to MSR II job role.
  • Teamwork & Organizational Contribution:

  • Enthusiastically take part in campaigns, specific marketing initiates and/or promotions for new products and services that promote sales and growth in key target areas.
  • Assist junior staff with daily activities as required (i.e. overrides, cash holdings, accounting processes and sales and service).
  • May maintain office supplies as required.

  • Position Requirements & Specifications

    Education:

    • Minimum: Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Preferred: Certificate, Diploma, Degree relating to Business Accountancy, Business Administration or Office Administration

    Experience, Knowledge Base & Training:

    • Entry level position and preference given to those with previous credit union or financial institution experience.
    • Credit union knowledge, philosophies and principles.
    • Basic math calculations (manual and calculator derived)
    • Credit union products and services
    • Knowledge & understanding of credit union policies and procedures.
    • Credit union banking system, email and telephone systems.
