Basic Function

Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Marketing and Communications, this position will provide critical support to a wide range of communications efforts to achieve outlined Business Plan goals. This includes the development and execution of internal and external communications plans for various portfolios/projects, and actively participating in strategic planning efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direction of the AVP, the direct responsibilities of this position include:

  • Coordinating public relations and special events efforts;
  • Supporting governance communications efforts (i.e. Board elections, Annual General Meeting, production of Annual Report);
  • Supporting a range of corporate communications efforts with specific emphasis on change management communications (i.e. developing key messaging, drafting memos and project briefs, speech writing); and
  • Coordinating the development of various member communications materials (i.e. e-newsletters, direct mailers, product/service brochures); and
  • Supporting the continued execution of the Community Investment Strategy.

Position Requirements & Specifications

Education and Experience

Education: Required : Post-secondary degree or diploma with a specialty in Communications, Public Relations or related field

  • 3-5 years experience in a Communications or Public Relations role.
  • Combination of Education and Experience will be considered.

Experience, Knowledge Base & Training

Learning and Development

This is dependent upon the technical skills and abilities the individual has already. If the individual does not have prior work experience in the credit union or financial sectors, they will be required to complete the following:

  • CUIC Course – CUIC 201 Credit Unions: Different by Design – via cuSource
  • Understanding our Business or Overview of the Credit Union System – via cuSource


  • Excellent communications skills (written, presentation and verbal)
  • Solid understanding of communications principles; and strong creative assessment abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborates well with others
  • Highly organized
  • Strong time managements skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize, meet deadlines and apply sound judgement
  • Comfortable working independently and with minimal supervision
  • Event planning experience
  • Comfortable with technology (specifically social media platforms and web content management systems)
  • Creative problem solving skills; analytical and proactive in an ever-changing environment

Work Conditions

  • Regular business hours are Monday to Friday. Some requirements may be outside of these hours, which could include evenings and weekends.
  • Mainly an office setting but the individual could be required to attend tradeshows or special events that could take the individual outside of the office environment. Please note that the location of these events varies and could be at venues that are outdoors.
  • There are no specific physical requirements of the job. The job does involve spending large amounts of time working at a desk in front of a computer.
  • Dependent upon position location, some travel between Brandon and Winnipeg required.
  • Position is primarily non-physical; however some minor lifting is required.
