Western Fair District is a not-for-profit agricultural Association that has deep roots in the City, evolving over a century-and-a-half from an agricultural fall Fair to a multi-faceted event centre which includes music and shopping, gaming and sports.

We are currently seeking part-time Security Officers to join our team!

$16.53/hr – as per Collective Agreement
*probationary rate $14.53/hr

Security staff report directly to the Security and Traffic Manager. They provide assistance, direction and exceptional customer service and provide high visibility to patrons and staff. They are responsible for performing Security functions as well as ensuring the peaceful enjoyment of our facilities by our customers.

Responsibilities of Security include :

  • Brand advocate for the District.
  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Enforcement of Western Fair District policies as well as any legislated Regulations.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Use of audio equipment.
  • Upkeep of records that may be used as evidence in any legal proceedings.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time and/or carry out routine foot patrols.
  • Attend all departmental meetings as well as all safety and professional development training sessions as directed.
  • Maintain professional licenses. ( Security Licence, ORC Licence, Smart Serve, etc ).
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Other related duties and required or assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education combined with 5 years security experience OR Post Secondary education ( Law & Security, Police Foundations) with 2 years experience (may consider related experience ).
  • Must maintain a professional license in Security by the Province of Ontario
  • Able to obtain AGCO and ORC license
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Driver’s license
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Able to effectively communicate with customers and patrons providing information and direction.
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision making skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate with and report any equipment problems to Supervisor.
  • Required to carry out duties and complete appropriate reports/documents as outlined in the Standing Orders.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.

Working Conditions

  • May be required to stand for long periods of time and/or carry out routine foot patrols.
  • Physically demanding
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Overnight shifts may be required
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends including holidays
  • Exposure to various weather conditions
