The Manager, Family Health Programs provides direction, leadership, overall administrative support and supervision of programs and staff assigned to reproductive and child health programs including oral health. The focus of this portfolio is primarily on the service/program components in the Family Health Standards including parenting programs, breastfeeding services, and service to priority populations, but also includes health promotion work across the Family Health Division. Oral health programs include dental screening in schools and community sites, preventative dental clinic program, portable clinics; and Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO 2).
Areas of Focus:
Demonstrates a sound knowledge and understanding of a population health approach and health promotion principles and strategies.
Leads and supports the planning, development, implementation, management and evaluation of family health programs assigned in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards; and is responsible for all aspects of performance management of the permanent and contract professional and administrative staff who deliver the programs. Activities include records management, responding to requests for information, ensuring privacy and security obligations are met, staff training and supervision.
Ensures program practice frameworks are based on current, best or promising practice, and protocols, guidelines outlined in the Ontario Public health Standards. Knowledgeable about practice related legislation for relevant professional staff including College of Nurses of Ontario, College of Dieticians of Ontario, College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, Dental Association of Canada, Ontario Dental Association, and Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
Works collaboratively with dental consultant to manage staff and program related issues in oral health programs.
Works collaboratively with other Family Health Managers and staff to support the work of the Family Health Division.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Position Effective: August 15, 2016
Requirements: Masters Degree in Health or Administration or related field
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
4 to 6 years experience in front line work
2 to 4 years experience in clinical supervision; program planning and evaluation, project management, human resources related issues/direct staff supervision preferred.
Special skills and training:
Knowledge of normal child growth and development, family functioning, behaviour change, impact of social determinants of health including mental health and mental illness, substance abuse and trauma on parenting skills and attitudes; data management; population health strategies, health promotion strategic and operational planning.
Clinical expertise related to topic areas of child health including breastfeeding, positive parenting, priority populations, oral health.
Experience in providing clinical supervision preferred.
Critical thinking, ability to analyze and interpret information.
Strong communication and report writing/presentation skills.
Conflict management and negotiation skills. Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to build consensus, function in a team environment.
Basic knowledge of finance and administration functions.
Knowledge of program and workplace legislative requirements.
