This position provides support to corporate communications objectives related to social media content, public relations, community relations, resource development, media relations, internal communications and communications strategies. Provides expertise and direction to staff and management on risk communications and emerging issues. Supports management in the development, implementation and evaluation of communications plans and strategies to address communications needs for both external and internal audiences.

Supports the design, implementation and evaluation of electronic communications platforms for external and internal audiences that are consistent with the mission, values and goals of Public Health. Will participate in the assessment, planning and implementation of non-print communications strategies to both internal and external audiences. Will participate in the development of communications campaigns in collaboration with staff and the other CS and will add new media expertise.

Support website and intranet content/design development and maintenance, evaluation:
• As website editor, reviews in collaboration with staff and management prior to content going live. Works with program staff, communications team colleagues on website postings to ensure that content is accurate and formatting and editing is consistent with the Agency’s style guide.
• Edit and write materials for internal and external audiences (website and intranet). Target the message to specific audiences based on assessment and evaluation.
• Ensure an active and up-to-date social media presence on various platforms including twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others.

• Support the development of policies and procedures to guide process – update regularly to incorporate media and communications requirements/changes.
• Develop style guide, update regularly and customize to needs of agency, new program language changes.
• Train and support all staff in usage of style guide, logo standards, plain language as they apply to new media applications.
• Mentor staff in their development of effective e-communications skills.
• Evaluate effectiveness of electronic media applications.

Integrate the agency’s communications platforms including website, e-newsletters and other traditional communications methods.

Support the development of communication campaigns for programs:
• Meet with program staff to identify needs of the target population and public health.
• Consult with programs on strategies to reach target groups through new media and social media platforms.
• Provide new media communications expertise to community coalitions and partner agencies as negotiated by Public Health and partnerships.
• Liaise with partner agencies to provide cross links, joint web pages and other collaborative projects when possible.
• Coordinate production of e-communications and web materials that are part of promotional/communication campaigns.

Support cross-program projects:
• Identity opportunities for linkages between programs that want to reach a specific target audience or that deliver messages on similar health topics/issues using e-communications. Present collaborative opportunities to managers and program staff. After approval, work with respective groups to ensure consistent messages, save money and time, and avoid errors. Depending on the scope of the project, work with the committee or group to develop a joint communications strategy.

• 4 Year Degree – Specify: English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing with 2 years work experience or Community College Diploma preferably in graphic design and/or public relations with 4 to 6 years work experience.
• Prefer Public Relations Accreditation
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a team setting, web writing, and web development.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Understands role of web and social media in crisis communications.
• Time management/prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
• Critical thinking, ability to analyze technical information.
• Broad knowledge and experience in the area of new media and social networking platforms and applications.
• Knowledge of web technology including blogs, podcasts, interactive portals and other content-sharing sites.
