The Watari Youth Day Treatment Program is seeking a qualified professional to fill a full time substance misuse counsellor position. The substance misuse counsellor works with youth & young adults (13 – 24yrs) in a collaborative team environment and facilitates groups, provides group & 1-1 counselling, integrated case management, and supports community-oriented transitional plans. This position requires creativity, flexibility, strong communication skills and a willingness to work within a team setting. A strong working knowledge of harm reduction strategies, trauma informed practice and a comprehensive knowledge of the compliment of services offered to youth in the Vancouver Coastal Health region is a must.

Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in an allied health discipline

Certificate/ training in substance misuse counselling is an asset

Minimum 4 years’ experience working with youth with multiple barriers preferably in a group setting

Ability to develop and facilitate groups on a variety of topic areas related to substance misuse, health, social, emotional issues etc.

Ability to develop case plans with youth

Knowledge of issues facing youth and the ability to work with this diverse population

Demonstrated ease working with youth and ability to make strong, collaborative relationships quickly

Strong assessment and writing skills

Art, recreation background is an asset

Class V drivers’ license & Valid First Aid Certificate

Successful Criminal Records Check
