Ensures effective communication and responds to Customer questions about deli merchandise, and provides requested assistance, such as verifying whether a specific deli product is in stock. Takes orders for Deli Department merchandise; slices and prepares merchandise, such as meat, cheese, fried chicken; and provides requested assistance.

Position Responsibilities

Ensures a safe and clean environment by maintaining Company safety standards, including safe slicing and wrapping of merchandise; and performing maintenance and cleaning, including keeping floors and displays dry and clean as required by the Deli Department. Monitors area for signs of shrink and potential security risks, and contacts management and/or In- Store Loss Prevention when problems are identified. Prepares deli food orders, meat, cheese, and utilizing slicers ,stackers, and other utensils. Prepares chicken by using rotisserie oven and deep fryer; and fills prepared salads and side dishes for placement into display area and specialty orders from Customers as required. Merchandising: Assists in maintaining accurate and competitive pricing by electronically verifying prices by scanning UPC codes to ensure the accuracy of signing. Ensures Deli Department is stocked by properly receiving and stocking merchandise on racks, shelves and displays, including regularly pulling and bringing merchandise forward, storing according to procedures, retrieving merchandise from freezers and coolers, placing merchandise in appropriate locations in displays and shelves, and removing distressed or unacceptable merchandise to be disposed of or processed for claims. Demonstrates and utilizes product knowledge about the types of Deli Merchandise, including providing basic information about the product and product uses. Maintains the overall appearance of the Deli Department area by keeping the merchandise and display cases fully stocked, properly signed, neat, clean, and organized. Adheres to standards and policies for cold chain compliance, thermometer calibrations, temperature recording, food handling, product rotation, sell-by dates, and expiration dates, including identifying and removing Meat/Deli Department merchandise that is damaged, outdated, or unacceptable in appearance to ensure quality and freshness.

Qualifications

Ability to adapt to and work effectively in various parts of the facility. Ability to complete mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with Customers, Associates. Ability to learn more about merchandise and utilize product information to assist the Customer with purchasing decisions. Ability to stock, and display merchandise in accordance with Company guidelines. Ability to read, write, and understand printed materials. Knowledge of and ability to apply cold chain compliance procedures, food safety, sanitation requirements and regulations per Company policy. Knowledge of and ability to apply Company and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of and proficiency with scanning equipment, scales, temperature gauges, deep fryers, rotisserie ovens, slicers, stackers, and hand tools, such as knives, scissors, and serving utensils. Knowledge of Deli Department merchandise, such as availability, specifics for group specialty orders, freshness, ingredients, and uses.

Licensing & Other Qualifications

Understanding and effectively following all Company policies and procedures, involving food quality assurance, Food Safety Audit, recording throwaways, product rotation, dating of merchandise, cold chain compliance, food safety and handling procedures, and cleaning procedures.

Physical Demands

Organizing, labeling, and pricing merchandise in accordance with Company guidelines and using fine motor skills to grasp, turn, and manipulate labeling and pricing equipment. Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, including the potential use of chemicals; while moving within the facility over uneven surfaces and moving up and down a ladder, frequently lifting, sorting, carrying, and placing merchandise and supplies of varying sizes weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and over 50 pounds with team lifting. Routinely working in an area requiring exposure to extreme temperatures, and damp or wet conditions.
