Role Mandate

The MIS team provides services and support to all areas of the organization by providing and supporting self service MIS systems, the delivery of business intelligence data through custom queries, analytics, etc. The overall goal of the MIS team is to act as a key resource and catalyst for increased Business Intelligence capabilities across the organization.

The MIS Analyst will support the delivery of Business Intelligence data through custom queries, analytics, etc. The focus of this position will be to build and support self service BI through Cognos 10.

Key Accountabilities

Report Design & Development :
Support the development and delivery Management Information Services (MIS) tools, data, systems and services, including the development of a user based self service reporting solution.

Maintain and continuously improve service delivery and tracking for MIS requests, using the established user process and service level for the delivery of information request, data queries, analysis request, etc.

Ensure that requests are sourced and delivered with quality and within the defined process and service levels.

Recommend and provide specified data to help business units better understand organizational performance; collect, analyze, and disseminate information about the business.

As a Centre of Excellence for Business Intelligence, support the end users of information and MIS services by remaining current on the needs of various business users, so that services, tools, data and processes continue to evolve, in order to increase BI capabilities across the organization.

Development/automation of reports for all areas of the organization.

Support projects through the development/automation of required analytics.

Data Analysis/Support :
Collaborate and provide recommendations for the development of analytics and KPI’s to support various business units.

Development/automation of reports to be used in the planning process.

Remain current on new standards for reports, visualization, software and controls, as needed.

Support the identification and resolution of data quality issues.

Support policies and procedures regarding data governance, security and access.

Respond to external client requests for ad hoc reporting.

Training/End User Cognos Support :
Provide assistance/troubleshooting as needs arise.

Assist with the development and delivery of training programs for end users.

Key Business Relationships

Product Staff – Maintain overall understanding of current and future product features, in order to provide valuable analytics to support business growth.

IT Staff (DBA) – Liaise with DBA to ensure that data models reflect business reporting requirements.

Fraud Staff – Maintain an overall understanding of current and future Fraud Data needs, in order to support migration of Fraud data and implementation of accurate and timely reporting.

Internal Staff – Support Cognos end users through development of reports, or support/trouble shooting and training needs.

Skills/Competencies Required

Exceptional data analysis skills including query development, optimization and quality delivery.

Sound knowledge of payments data, message layouts, and processing.

Excellent knowledge of tools such as Excel and PowerPoint.

Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to find the simplest solution to meet business needs.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to deal with all levels of the organization, plus external stakeholder organizations, including outsourced contractors, consultants and software vendors.

Ability to work under pressure, with ambiguity and in the context of committed delivery schedules.

Commitment to excellence in Customer (internal and external) service.

Ability to work in a demanding and fast paced financial environment.

Interest and aptitude to quickly learn new tools and technologies.

Enthusiastic, highly motivated and detail-oriented individual.

Professional Experience & Education

Minimum of 3 years of experience with report development best practices.

A degree in Business, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role with focus on MIS services, ideally in payments &/or financial services.

Experience with Business Intelligence solutions preferably in a Cognos, SQL &/or Oracle environment.

Strong data analysis and Business Intelligence experience, exposure and skill.

Experience with Cognos Report Development (or other similar BI Tool).

Experience with digital dashboard creation using business reporting tools.

Experience in payment processing systems is an asset.
