INDIGENOUS ELDERS AND PROGRAM ASSISTANT

The Vancouver Native Health Society and Indigenous Mmmooooooke Na Sii Yea Yeaaa (MNSYY), All my Relations Program are seeking a candidate for a combined Indigenous Elders and Program Assistant position. This position will report to the Program Coordinator and will provide cultural, administrative, organizational and functional support to the Elders and Program Coordinator.

Position Summary

Components of the Elders and Program Assistant position include, but are not limited to assisting Elders with:

  • the provision of culturally-safe care for Indigenous patients and program participants
  • 1:1 appointments, group visits, self-management groups or cultural teaching circles
  • Scheduling appointments, referrals and follow up; collecting and maintaining client visit data and documenting on database.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Indigenous Elder and Program Assistant will:

  • Assist with data entry and collection for the MNSYY program evaluation process
  • Assist with funding reports and grant writing
  • Assist with organizing weekly program meetings and planning and organization of quarterly MNSYY program meetings and seasonal ceremonies.

Qualifications

Successful applicants must have:

  • Minimum of a diploma from an accredited college or university (preferably in health discipline or community social services) or equivalent work experience.
  • Familiarity in working with Indigenous Elders/Healers with knowledge of cultural protocols and Indigenous approach to wellness.
  • Experience with group facilitation and processes (Circle format)
  • Strong human relations and inter-personal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Vancouver downtown eastside community and familiarity with Indigenous Health

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets/databases and email
  • Ability to maintain personal boundaries
  • Personal wellness plan

Position and Wage

Part-time: 24 hours per week with possibility of full-time position

Wage: Commensurate with education and experience
