Majority of work will be centered around our Hospitality Management Coop program (80% International students)….

Majority of work will be centered around our Hospitality Management Coop program (80% International students). Develop career-related Cooperative Education work terms for students, list of potential employers, appropriate job descriptions, job specifications and employer profiles for students and on-going coop development activity. Develop student profiles and qualifications for employers, employer database and student database for historical and continuing information sources. Develop and facilitate student-employer interviews and placement process. Develop and maintain promotional materials and information bulletins. Organize and facilitate career related networking and special events that promote our students, programs and institution.

Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Business, Social Science or Education from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience interacting and working with intercultural environments and international groups and the ability to communicate effectively with various cultures. Experience and/or the ability to understand the issues that present challenges for International Students with their successful transition into Coop work terms in the Canadian labor market and then support students having difficulties with this transition. Good promotion, marketing and presentation skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational and problem solving abilities and a proven ability to set priorities and to work independently while spporting a team approach. Proven ability to manage conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment. Solid computer skills including proficiency using MS office software. Knowledge of on-line career and employment resources. Good knowledge of local, regional, national and global labour markets. Travel nvolved (will requires use of own vehicle) Successful applicant must possess a valid BC Driver’s license and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in VIU policy and procedures).

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in a relevant field. Minimum of three years of recent directly related experience in the area of career development and employment service working with adults, including previous direct career/employment program delivery experience in the community, social service or public post-secondary sector. Recent knowledge and/or experience in experiential education and work-based training. Additional courses in related area, e.g. career counseling, marketing, program development and labour market information. Proven interviewing and counseling skills. Knowledge of Business and related fields.
