In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Corporate Director, Facilities Management, the Director, Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FMO) is accountable for the administration and delivery of FMO Physical Plant Services within a defined geographical area of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA).
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a degree in engineering or technology (engineering) or related field; completion of certificate program or designation in plant or facilities management. Sound knowledge of various planning, project management and mechanical, electrical and building trades. Plant engineering management experience of ten (10) years including 5 years’ plant operations/maintenance/minor construction, 3 years (hospital) plant operations and maintenance experience (preferred), 2 years project management.
Demonstrated senior management and superior leadership skills, ability to plan and effectively manage operational emergencies and catastrophes. Effective communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to working with all levels of medical and hospital personnel, professional consultants, regulatory agencies. Ability to work as a member of the senior management team.
