In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Leader, Quality Systems and Processes, the Consultant, Medication Safety works collaboratively within a team of Quality and Safety professionals to contribute to the effective implementation and evaluation of the Medication Safety Implementation Committee Initiatives. The Consultant works across the organization, utilizing capacity building strategies to enhance the skills, abilities, resources and commitment required to develop and implement a strong foundation for the provision of quality care. The Consultant provides expertise for the application and integration of evidence-based systems and tools designed to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, safety, and sustainability of health services. The Consultant works closely with the Leader of Quality Systems and Processes primarily focusing on Medication Safety including CPOE and Clinical Order Sets (paper).

Travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Qualifications

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a related health discipline and seven (7) years’ recent related experience in a clinical setting. Valid BC Drivers’ license.

 Extensive knowledge and ability in clinical health care practice, education and program planning, development and evaluation.

 Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

 Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and carry out projects within deadlines, together with analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
 Working knowledge of keyboarding and computer software (MS Office Suite) as well as familiarity with Internet and Email systems.
 Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
