This Vendor and Event Support position will have two primary components: Events (centred around the Megaphone Breakfast, the Hope in Shadows Calendar Launch, and #VendorWeek 2016); and the Megaphone/Hope in Shadows vendor program.

Participating youth must:

  • be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the time of intake;
  • have demonstrated skills achievement at the post-secondary level ( this means that you must have more than secondary school achievement) ;
  • intend to gain ICT skills and knowledge;
  • meet the job requirements of the IHO, which should included stated ICT-related activities;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada; and
  • must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

Vendor program

  • Support vendor coordinator for new vendor orientation sessions for Megaphone and Hope in Shadows (scheduling, signups, reminder calls and emails, Vendor ID badge making, preparing orientation guides, offering training support for Vendor Coordinator)
  • Communicate information, news, and updates to vendors through phone calls, emails, posters, and field visits
  • Assist Vendor Coordinator to prepare logistics for and run monthly vendor meetings and vendor workshops
  • Assist Vendor Coordinator to prepare for and run Vendor Social events (eg. Summer BBQ, Christmas Dinner)
  • Help coordinate and flyer for Megaphone’s “I Work Here” campaign and promotion for vendors
  • Work shifts serving vendors on the HIS/Megaphone sales desk
  • Support Megaphone staff in resolving vendor conflicts and code of conduct issues


  • Help create printed materials for the vendor program (recruitment posters/flyers, monthly vendor newsletter, I Work Here posters, etc.)
  • Help draft publicity materials using desktop publishing and word processing applications
  • Create and post vendor social media content
  • Transcribe vendor profile interviews
  • Megaphone/HIS presence at community events


  • Assist with planning, logistics, and execution for Megaphone events, including the HIS calendar launch, Megaphone Breakfast, #VendorWeek 2016 and vendor Christmas party
  • Promote vendor program at community events (eg., Homeless Connect, Vancouver Folk Festival)


  • Direct experience working with homeless and/or low-income people, or experience working with marginalized populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer and basic graphic design skills (MS Word, Excel, social media)
  • Good attention to detail and an ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Nationbuilder or other CRM is an asset
  • Event planning or production experience an asset
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Requires own laptop and cellphone
  • This job regularly requires heavy lifting (25lb to 50lb)

HOURS : 35 hours/week; scheduling of hours is flexible and to be done in conjunction with supervisor
SALARY : $15/h
