EMBERS is a national award winning social enterprise based in the Woodwards Building in the Downtown Eastside Vancouver. We operate a temporary labour company, EMBERS Staffing Solutions, that employs 150 + people a week, and also runs a small business training program, EMBERS Ventures, for low income entrepreneurs.

BASIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Participating youth must:

  • be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the time of intake;
  • have demonstrated skills achievement at the post-secondary level ( this means that you must have more than secondary school achievement) ;
  • intend to gain ICT skills and knowledge;
  • meet the job requirements of the IHO, which should included stated ICT-related activities;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada; andå
  • must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

  • Assisting IT Consultant and Operations Manager in the implementation a new comprehensive software system
  • Transferring data from current system to the new system
  • Helping to maintain new software system
  • Marketing employment program to the community through social media and other avenues (mailing and distributing information on employment programs)
  • Providing network support to different computer users
  • Supporting Executive Director and administrative team with day-to-day operations


REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with software technologies, database systems, computer networks
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to adapt to fast-paced, ever-changing environment that is people-focused
  • Comfort working with diverse populations
  • Comfort working with Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms
  • Attention to detail


HOURS
: 25-30 hours/week
SALARY : $15/h
INTERNSHIP DURATION : 650 hours

Internship provided via the Vancouver Community Network Youth Internships program and funded by HSRDC and Industry Canada.
