M-F; M-Sat; T-F (Mon, Tue, Wed: 8-1600; Thurs: 1230-2030; Fri: 0830-1630; Sat: 8-1600

JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, under the general direction and in consultation with the therapist(s) prepares and carries out therapeutic, recreational and social activities/programs designed to optimize/maintain client’s physical, social and mental needs. Assists the therapist with equipment maintenance and the fabrication of adaptive devices as appropriate. Coordinates transportation to and from rehabilitation/recreation sessions and drives a passenger van/bus to transport clients’/residents on outings. Provides orientation and functional direction to volunteers, reports relevant observations of client’s progress/participation to the therapist, organizes furnishings and equipment for designated activities, and maintains established inventory of supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Class 4 driver’s license (unrestricted).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
