Reliability & Maintenance Manager

The Opportunity:
Located in Long Harbour, Newfoundland, the Reliability & Maintenance Manager will be a key member of the site leadership team and will have the primary role of implementing and managing plant wide maintenance and asset management of the Long Harbour Operations.

The Reliability & Maintenance (R&M) Manager will have a special emphasis and responsibility on leading the transition from a traditional maintenance trades team to a High Performance Work System organizational model where the maintenance work is transitioned through peer training to the front line processing plant technicians.

The R&M Manager will be a champion of change in leading the current R&M team and collaboratively with the larger Vale site leadership team organization through this shift. At the same time delivering First Class in Plant Maintenance through the current high quality staff and contractors group that are currently in place.

Within the High Performance Work System organizational design the R&M Manager will optimize resources, support systems and team development to meet current and future business needs and operational requirements.

The R&M Manager directly manages the department and execution of complex or specialty maintenance work. Indirectly, the role manages the performance of maintenance work that is completed by Processing Plant Technician’s as well as managing their competence and training to perform the work. In consultation with the Production Area Managers, the R&M Manager plans maintenance objectives, practices and priorities to integrate with plant operating objectives.
This role works collaboratively with the other managers across all areas at the Long Harbour Processing Plant.

Ensures that appropriate preventative and predictive maintenance practices and systems are defined and in place aligning with Vale’s Asset Management Framework mode.
Support the Safe Production model of risk and hazard management and support Vale’s safety, health and environment management system.

Track and adjust expenditures within the Reliability and Maintenance department to meet the annual budget and prepare the annual maintenance budget and five year plan.


  • Post-Secondary Engineering Degree within related discipline


  • 10-15 years of Maintenance Management experience within an Industrial site.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Commissioning/Start Up new facility

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Reliability Centered Maintenance Certified
  • Certified Maintenance Professional Designation
