Job Title: Systems Engineer (Coop)

Location: Vancouver, BC

FT/PT: Temporary, Full-Time

UrtheCast Corp. is a Vancouver-based technology company that serves the rapidly evolving geospatial and geoanalytics markets with a wide range of information-rich products and services. The Company currently operates four Earth Observation sensors in space, including two cameras aboard the International Space Station and two satellites, Deimos-1 and Deimos-2.

Imagery and video data captured by these sensors are downlinked to ground stations across the planet and displayed on UrtheCast’s cloud-based web platform, or distributed directly to partners and customers. UrtheCast is also developing and anticipates launching the world’s first fully-integrated constellation of multispectral optical and SAR satellites, called OptiSARTM, which the Company believes will revolutionize monitoring of our planet with high quality, high resolution, and high revisit imagery in all weather conditions, any time of day.

We are growing in Vancouver and searching for a Systems Engineer (Coop) for a 4-month term starting in January. The Systems Engineer (Coop) will be responsible for supporting the design and development of the satellite real-time onboard task planning. The software will generate an optimal schedule to task the satellite to acquire imagery, taking into account complex system and resource constraints.

KEY ACTIVITIES:
Work in a team environment to support analysis, definition and documentation of on-board planning use cases, timing budgets and preliminary design

Development of interface control documentation for onboard planning related interfaces with spacecraft and ground systems

Prepare documentation and presentation materials in support of an onboard planner preliminary design review

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
3rd or 4th year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or equivalent

Completed at least 2 co-op work terms

Experience in software or systems engineering of complex resource-constrained systems

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Software engineering

Fluent in a high level development language such as Python, C, C++.

Self-starter and ability to work with minimum supervision

Experience in supporting large-scale complex projects with tight deadlines

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment

Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning, and problem solving skills

Bonus:
Practical knowledge of databases

Experience with real-time processing tasks

Experience with scheduling algorithms

Understanding of general processor architectures and constraints
