Sports & Recreation Services is one of the most diverse units on campus combining varsity Athletics, Recreation activities and Facilities operations into one unit working to contribute to the universities goals and objectives of offering the best student experience. Sport and Recreation Services offers a wide variety of services and experiences for Western students and faculty, alumni, the London community, and other stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
The Fitness Instructor III is responsible for leading a range of safe and enjoyable fitness sessions. The incumbent will act as a mentor for other fitness instructor and will instruct clients using effective workout methods, explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises and provide exceptional customer service to clients. The incumbent may also provide fitness appraisals in accordance with policy and procedures as needed. The incumbent will assist with the planning and development of staff development session and instruct the fitness instructor course and apprentice program.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Two related nationally recognized Fitness Instructor Certification(i.e. SFIC CCAA, Can Fit Pro, ACE, YMCA etc)
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification or must be obtained prior to employment start date

Experience:

  • 5 years related Fitness instruction experience (at Western)

  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills to enable team members to achieve high-quality outcomes
  • Ability to conduct training sessions and instruct others
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer srvice orientation
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, clients and the public
  • Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
  • Passion to work hard with a propensity to pursue goals with energy and persistence
  • Ability to teach and effectively lead a range of fitness classes and activities
  • Reliable with the consistent ability to work assigned shifts is paramount
