About Us

The central mission of Western Law is to educate students in the core areas of Canadian law, in analytical skills and in effective legal research, writing and advocacy. We will also provide students with opportunities to apply their legal knowledge and to gain experience in group work, dispute resolution, and leadership skills development.

Western Law’s Career and Professional Development Office (CPDO) provides information and tools to help students succeed in today’s competitive job market. The office offers individual one-on-one counselling to prepare students for the recruitment process. The CPDO also runs a wide variety of programs and events throughout the year to help students hone their job search skills, learn about law-related career opportunities and connect with potential employers. The office drafts, updates and publishes career-related resources for students including tip sheets and hiring guides. In addition Western Law’s CPDO offers and maintains a number of career management platforms for students including an online database of summer and articling opportunities.


The Administrative Assistant coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Career & Professional Development Office at Western Law, in collaboration with the Director. The incumbent will provide a first point of contact and act as a resource for all inquiries and will provide information to faculty, staff, students and employers regarding the Career & Professional Development Office policies, procedures, programs and resources, ensuring adherence to professional standards. The Administrative Assistant coordinates logistics for several large-scale events, including student on campus interview programs, career conferences and various speaker panels and events. The incumbent helps plan and deliver recruitment information sessions, supports the development of various print and electronic materials, creates, maintains and updates specialized databases, generates statistical data and reports for review, supports various financial and registration processes and maintains and updates websites as required.


– 3 year community college diploma in Business Management/Administration
– Bachelor’s Degree is preferred

– Experience providing administrative support and customer service; preferably in an academic environment
– Experience coordinating logistics of specialized programs, services or events

– Ability to make appropriate decisions and resolve issues by identifying the critical elements of a problem situation and considering each aspect
– Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
– Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
– Strong organization skills and ability to juggle multiple priorities
– Intermediate proficiency required in Microsoft Office Suite to prepare communications, graphics, statistical reports, and input departmental data into spreadsheets and databases
– Familiarity with applications used by Western – e-mail, calendars, PeopleSoft, Adobe Acrobat Publisher, web-based databases/programs
– Familiarity with Symplicity CSM, InterviewStream or other career management software programs preferred
– Familiarity with academic calendar and programs offered at Western Law preferred
– Familiarity with Western policies and guidelines preferred
