General Description of Class:
In the Facilities Management department, we take pride in our buildings and grounds and provide a welcoming, service-oriented, clean and safe environment for our students, faculty and staff. Under general supervision, the Service Worker Grounds performs labour maintenance functions on grounds.
The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required, and the extent of responsibility involved in this job. They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated.
Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety of functions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position. The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work.
a) trims, cuts and waters grass; maintains all soft landscaping. This includes activities such as watering, weeding, cultivating, fertilizing, pruning, etc:
b) rakes leaves, lays sod;
c) prepares ground for planting; plants flowers, shrubs and trees;
d) works on campus cleaning details;
e) works on snow and ice removal;
f) moves furniture and equipment; and
g) other related duties as required.

Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
One year of related work experience is preferred.
Physical ability to perform required duties, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written), ability to work under all weather conditions and may be required to work long and various hours. Must possess valid Provincial Class “G” driver’s license.
Hours of work: No guarantee of hours. Hours vary based on operational needs. Call-ins during snow events. This is a casual position starting in November until the end of March.
