Description

:

Under the general supervision of the Head Therapist and the Clinic Manager, the incumbent will provide clinical services at the David L. MacIntosh Sport Medicine Clinic. The Clinic provides services to students, other members of the University, and the public, including, but not limited to, intercollegiate and international-calibre athletes. The staff of the Clinic provides preventive and therapeutic sport medicine services at the clinic and at some athletic events. The incumbent will provide patient care as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes certified athletic therapists, registered physical therapists, registered massage therapists, chiropractors, sport physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, receptionists and a clinic manager.

The incumbent has several key responsibilities: Clinical Therapy Services, Intercollegiate and Provincial Team Care, Practical Instruction of Students, Clinical Supervision of Students, and Professional Development. The relative weight of these responsibilities and the Intercollegiate teams assignments are established annually.

Qualifications

:

Minimum:
Education:
The incumbent must:
be a Registered Physiotherapist in Ontario;

maintain professional malpractice insurance; and,

possess and maintain valid certification as a First Responder (or obtain this status within six months of commencing this position, and thereafter maintain it).

Completion of postgraduate professional development courses in a variety of neuro-musculo-skeletal therapeutic techniques, and the acquisition of the practice-related skills taught therein, is a definite asset, particularly:

orthopaedic assessment and manual / manipulative therapy;

sport physiotherapy; and,

relevant courses in other schools or techniques of manual or soft-tissue therapy, taping, therapeutic exercise, or other skills related to a physiotherapist’s scope-of-practice.

Successful completion of examinations, and certification by any specialty branch of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association is a definite asset, particularly:

Intermediate Diploma of Manual & Manipulative Physiotherapy (RCAMT)and/or Advanced Diploma of Manual & Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMT).

Sport Physiotherapy Canada Certificate or Diploma holders

Membership in, and/or certification by, the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association is an asset.

Experience:
Minimum three year of experience as a physiotherapist in a multi-disciplinary sport medicine clinic, or in another clinic specializing in orthopaedics or other musculo-skeletal health care, is required.

Experience in sport field care at an elite or high performance level is required.

Skills:
Strong organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills are required.

Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.

Computer literacy is required.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate

USW14 — $71,757 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $91,767. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
