Description

:

The Manager, Human Resources is responsible for efficient and effective delivery of a full range of Human Resource services for the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL). The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing, in consultation with administrative and academic leaders within the Library, human resource strategies, policies and programs that support UTL’s mission and strategic and operational goals and are consistent with and support the broader, University-wide Human Resources and University of Toronto goals.

The Manager, Human Resources and his/her team provide advice and support to clients within UTL on complex and diverse human resource issues including organizational structure and job design; job evaluation; compensation & salary administration; recruitment and selection; onboarding; performance management; labour and employee relations; collective agreement and policy interpretation; attendance management; change management; training and development; workplace accommodation; management of employee concern and complaints; employee engagement; succession planning and other human resource management issues as they may arise. The Manager serves as the HR/LRadvisor to the senior management team (the Chief Librarian, Deputy Chief Librarian and Chief Administrative Officer).

The Manager, Human Resources supervises and oversees a team of HR professionals and monitors the department budget for appropriate resource allocation.

Qualifications

:

(MINIMUM)

EDUCATION

:

University degree together with completion of a Certified HR Professional designation (CHRP) and/or Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

:

A minimum seven (7) years’ experience of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources position in an academic environment, with at least five (5) years in a managerial position; Experience dealing effectively with a diverse group of clients in difficult or sensitive situations; Labour relations experience in a unionized environment; Experience with organizational design, leadership development and performance management; Experience recruiting, training, supervising, coaching and mentoring staff.

Demonstrated managerial, coaching, mentoring and team-building skills; Strong oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills; Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices and employment legislation; Strong client service orientation; Effective problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills; Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and persuasion; Ability to maintain strict confidentiality; Must be a strong advocate of equity, human rights and diversity issues; Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team; Ability to make difficult decisions; Ability to manage conflict; Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, manage multiple/competing priorities, meet deadlines, achieve planned goals as well as deal with unexpected emergencies as they arise; Must be a result-oriented manager; Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS.

Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in all interactions; Excellent ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and constituencies within the University; Ability to interact with others in a manner which facilitates cooperation and achieve consensus; Able to concisely summarize information and provide rationale for action.
