Working under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Curriculum Inquiry, (in consultation with the Manager, Finance and Administration) and working in collaboration with the journal editors and graduate student assistants, the incumbent is responsible for providing administrative support to the journal and the journal office. Responsibilities include: serving as the administrative coordinator for Manuscript Central management/submission software, including ensuring submission information, templates, and instructions are complete, and assisting editors, students, authors and reviewers with technical issues related to the web-based software; screening manuscript submissions for both compliance with journal requirements and relevance with journal Aims and Scope; collecting, copying, and organizing materials related to manuscript preparation and reviews; maintaining a database of reviewers and potential contributors; assisting with monitoring publication deadlines; preparing standard correspondence for authors and reviewers; copy editing rejection, revision, and feedback letters from journal editors; communicating with publishers regarding production of the journal; maintaining files; coordinating meetings of the editorial team and graduate students, including taking minutes; updating Squarespace web site (http://www.curriculuminquiry.org); preparing and sending out MailChimp e-blasts six times a year; answering and directing inquiries for the journal office; and preparing promotional materials.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Minimum three years related experience. Demonstrated experience providing editorial support. Experience working with data entry and preparing spreadsheets. Some knowledge of and experience with academic printing and publishing, including style requirements and bibliography forms. Experience working as an editorial assistant for a journal is an asset.

Skills:
Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Strong writing and editorial skills, including copyediting. Knowledge of electronic management systems, specifically Scholar One/Manuscript Central. Familiarity with APA 6th edition headings, citation and reference list formats

Other:
Superior communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; promotional skills; tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and discretion; ability to work independently; knowledge of academic scholarship, specifically in curriculum studies and/or education research and scholarly journal workings; a high level of competence in technical and administrative procedures accuracy and attention to detail; strong coordination and time management skills; and professionalism.
