The International Student Recruitment and Admissions Officer, under the supervision of the Assistant Director, International Student Recruitment & Admissions, works closely with other members of the Recruitment and Admissions team to develop and implement strategies and initiatives to assist UTM to achieve its recruitment and enrolment management objectives with a focus on International students within the Canadian and International Education systems – both public and private high schools, colleges and universities. The incumbent is responsible for representing UTM and the University of Toronto domestically and internationally, in order to recruit well-qualified international students to the university.
The Officer develops, plans, co-ordinates and represents UTM in events and programs. Working as a member of a team the incumbent assists in the co-ordination of the campus visits including selection, training and supervision of student ambassadors and volunteers, ensuring student assistants have up-to-date and accurate information about the admissions process, requirements, and programs of the university. The incumbent performs an admissions and recruitment advising role to prospective students and their families using knowledge of the university’s policies and procedures. The incumbent also acts as a lead contact with high schools within Canada and abroad with large populations of international students to develop relationships and implement initiatives for pathways to admission at UTM.
The Officer fosters positive relationships between academic and non-academic divisions, departments and student groups at UTM and U of Tso that internal constituencies are well informed of recruitment and liaison activities and wherever possible are given an opportunity to participate in the recruitment process. The incumbent is also responsible for the promotion, and marketing of the Academic Culture and English ([email protected]
) program working closely with the Manager, Academic Culture & English (ACE) Program, Associate Registrar, Student Success and the School of Continuing Studies.
University degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum four (4) years experience in a post-secondary environment in an admissions, recruitment/liaison role with experience dealing with International students. Experience working with or serving a diverse population of youth and their parents. Knowledge of a wide variety of high school curricula, English language proficiency requirements and test options and U of T admission requirements is essential. Proven and demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service. Experience in planning and coordinating large group events and programs. Experience presenting to large and diverse groups. Experience with booking travel and accommodation outside Ontario.
Email, working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). Webinar and social media tools. Knowledge and experience with database and CRM systems is preferred. Data analysis and report generation is an asset.
Must be conversant with issues related to student recruitment, admission, university life and issues surrounding International students. Proven record of tact and diplomacy, excellent communication, public speaking and conflict resolution skills and the ability to work within a rapidly changing environment. Ability to lift and carry promotion materials (boxes approximately 25 kg). Confidence in equipment set-up and use. Valid driver’s license and vehicle required. Extensive travel is required during certain parts of the year (trips can be up to two weeks at a time).
Some evening and weekend work is required. Must be prepared to make several presentations each day. Fluency in Mandarin is an asset.
