Description

:

Under the general supervision of the Director,
Online Marketing and Communications, the

Front-end Web Developer is responsible for developing, deploying and maintaining websites,
related systems and email communications in support of the alumni and donor
engagement activities of the Division of University Advancement and the broader
advancement community at the University of Toronto.

As an integral part of the Advancement
Communications and Marketing team, the incumbent works closely with other
website managers and coordinators and with designers, writers, program managers
and program coordinators from across the university.

The incumbent contributes sophisticated and highly
technical software programming and coding services to a broad range of
web-based products. Duties include: developing front-end and back-end website
interfaces to achieve specific business objectives using a combination of
programming languages and website technologies, preparing and communicating
development plans, maintaining/updating website platforms, updating structural
elements of existing websites,

responsive HTML development of email templates,
deploying mass email communications

and
providing advanced technical assistance in the implementation of other types of
e-communications or online media, using a variety of tools, platforms, and
programming languages. In addition, the incumbent will provide direct technical
support and user account support to a wide variety of stakeholders, clients,
and users, including DUA staff, divisional advancement staff, and alumni and
donors of the university.

Qualifications

:

(MINIMUM)

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in

computer
science, web development or related field, formal training in web development

or an
acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
At least three (3) years in a website
development and technical support role for a large organization, with at least
one year in an agency environment; Experience supporting communications or
marketing functions an asset.

Skills:
Advanced computer skills, including: advanced
knowledge of MS Office applications and Adobe Dreamweaver; fluency in the latest

HTML5/CSS,

standards;
experience with Javascript and popular Javascript Libraries (e.g. JQuery);

ability
to produce clean and well-documented HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, JavaScript code for
all web projects;

experience customizing WordPress platforms using advanced PHP
programming skills; experience configuring and administering IIS and Apache web
services for common front-end applications;

deep experience of responsive
HTML email development

;experience implementing and administering
databases using a variety of platforms, including MySQL, MS Access, MS SQL; familiarity
with Google Apps and other hosted software-as-a-service products; Experience
with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Flash, and Adobe Acrobat;

Design
and development to WCAG 2.0 Level 2 standard as per AODA Communications and
Information Standards; Deep knowledge of Google Analytics, eNewsletter Pro,
iModules, WordPress systems

Other:
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment;
Strong organizational skills and ability to develop and manage workload for
concurrent projects; Excellent understanding of the Internet, Internet
technologies and online trends, including usability, accessibility and design
trends; Strong understanding of the principles of mobile computing including
responsive web design and mobile app development;

Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to address web design
challenges;

Particular understanding of best
practices for developing digital content for the web environment;

Ability
to communicate effectively, and work successfully within a team; Ability to
prioritize while working with multiple tasks and projects;

Demonstrated flexibility in working with
changing demands; Ability to collaborate with other web and new media designers
and developers within the organization.

position from May 2016 to April 2017 with the possibility of renewal.
