Under the general direction of the Manager, Athletics & Recreation and guidance from and collaboration with the Senior Advisor, Equity & Diversity at UTSC, this role is responsible for equity related programming, outreach, knowledge translation across and within co-curricular areas related to athletics, recreation and physical activity, with the intent and vision to increase participation and ensure high levels of engagement amongst all members of the campus community, and in particular students. The incumbent is responsible for supporting outreach related programming and developing strategy in partnership with others in Athletics and across campus such as the Department of Student Life and the Department of Student Housing and Residence Life so as to improve student access and participation in all forms of physical activity, recreation and sport thereby ensuring opportunity for equitable access for all students. This involves outreach to clubs, various student groups, communities, and organizations. The incumbent will have a high level of knowledge related to diverse populations across campus. They will identify and initiate collaborative opportunities with relevant partner departments to develop, implement and sustain a comprehensive educational and participant-centered approach to physical activity and recreation programming with a focus on equity and engagement. Using an anti-oppressive approach along with a high level of cultural and diversity awareness, the incumbent acts as the primary coordinator, along with a student leadership team, to champion equity, diversity, and accessibility programming across the continuum of co-curricular programs in collaboration with UTSC Senior Advisor, tri-campus Equity Officers and Equity related positions across the University. The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the orientation, training, mentoring and general supervision of work study/student staff with regards to physical activity and equity, diversity and inclusion areas.
The incumbent is responsible for making recommendations to improve the delivery of co-curricular programs and services and for supporting the implementation of changes related to programming that addresses equity from a variety of student populations and community groups. This position supports and contributes to the development, documentation, communication and implementation of all co-curricular equity protocols within the Department of Athletics & Recreation.

The incumbent will be a resource related to initiatives of research, sourcing out best practices, and gathering existing data on student usage within athletic facilities and as participants in programs.
(Minimum qualifications)

Education: Undergraduate degree or the equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience.

Experience: Minimum four years’ experience in the design, development,and implementation of programs, specifically for diverse populations, and the promotion of physical activity/active living and wellness to student and community populations. Experience with developing and delivering training within an equity framework. Experience supervising staff, preferably in a university and/or unionized environment, including mentorship. Experience working with youth and young adults.
Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills. High level of cultural awareness and understanding of key equity principles, including anti-oppression. Keen sense of political acumen, preferably within a higher education environment. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with people at all levels (students, staff, coaches, senior administration, faculty, alumni, community, business leaders). A creative thinker, problem solver and an ability to work in a team environment. Strong computer competencies with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to communicate information to staff, students and members with attention to detail and possesses a strong client service orientation. Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem solving skills. Commitment to the Departments mission and values and an understanding and commitment to diversity and equity issues.
Other: Demonstrated ability to organize and direct activities: excellent oral and written communication and diplomacy skills; proven ability to collaborate and participate effectively within a team; commitment/passion for the continuum of programs, enthusiasm and skill in mentoring student leaders. Must understand current university policies and processes, AODA legislation and Human Rights Code and other legislation that relates to this role.
